There are some things that investigations just can’t solve.  This is one of those enigmatic SPIRITS cases that sat in the backlog of files simply because we didn’t know what to do with it.

The team went out to a small home in 2004.  The current owner had a partial history on the house:  the prior owner had worked within the foster care system.  She had a number of foster children in her home and some of their belongings still resided in hidden areas on the property.

Though the homeowner and her family reported a myriad of phenomena, which included footsteps from an unknown origin, shadow figures, paralysis dreams, and a black shadow that flitted from room to room.  However, the SPIRITS, though sensing some unsettling energy and capturing some orbs, could not easily identify a presence in the house.

Two items of interest came from this investigation.  The first one related to the use of compasses by multiple teammates.  These small and basic instruments are useful for finding EMF (electromagnetic field) fluctuations.  In several areas of the house the needles appeared to be reacting, turning several degrees off from true north.  Yet, upon closer inspection metal was found in the vicinity of these aberrant readings.  The SPIRITS deemed it highly likely that the metal produced the EMF fields and caused the alterations in readings.

The second item related to the attic.  Since the SPIRITS were given free reign of the household, we opted to go inside the storage area.  Though the heat was unrelenting at 101 degrees, several members moved through the area.  Items from prior tenants, including books and diaries left behind by the children, were scattered throughout.

During the homeowner interview, several of these diaries were brought down for the SPIRITS to examine.  The entries were from a young woman who was depressed and angry; much of her writings focused on suicide and death.  Could it be she who was creating troubles for the homeowner?

Ultimately, several of the SPIRITS sensitives felt that she may have been one source for the troubles.  The home, they thought, was not actively haunted (or, at the very least, nothing attempted to work with us that night).  The activity could have been caused by residue energy – perhaps from the unhappiness and loneliness experienced by the children who cycled through this property.

Little else turned up in our research and we have not heard from the homeowner since the investigation.  We can only hope that the restless nature of the home has since become settled.

Ann's Report:
Location:    Village
Date :  5/22/04     Time ~6:50pm
Weather:  warm  breezy
3 days beyond the new moon
Team:   Charles, John, Zolt & Linda

Dining Room:
86 degrees F
Compass changing directions when on dining table.  No metal evident on underside of table
No EMF reported
When walking across the threshold in and out of dining room I had a strange sensation like a chill but not a chill.   It is hard to describe, like walking through a layer of resistance.
There was also an old console type stereo in the room that during the return visit to the room by the whole group the compasses were going crazy.  Later discovered that the area of the stereo top the compasses were spinning on was where the old tuner of the stereo was attached to the underside of the lid.  Possible explanation for the bizarre behavior of the compasses on the stereo
Also discovered in the dining room at second walk through was a journal and personal possessions of a teenage girl who was a previous occupant of the house.

Kitchen/ Laundry room
85 degrees
EMF around appliances
Family pet farret in cage in laundry room

Family room:
85 degrees
No EMF
No anomalies noted

Living Room:
86 degrees
No EMF
No anomalies noted.

Master Bedroom
84 degrees
After first walk through several reported strange feeling around closet
On second walk through EMF noted around bookcase but could not identify source and stopped when the lights were off.   Could have been some exposed wiring behind wall.

Bedroom 2
82 degrees
No EMF
No anomalies noted.

Turtle Bedroom
82 degrees
No EMF noted in first walk through.
Some reported strange feeling around closet.  Other side of wall to left of Master bedroom closet
On second walk through when entering room flicked on light switch and it took a couple of seconds for the overhead light to come.   Turned light switch off and on several time could not duplicate first time.   Could be electrical.

Office:
83 degrees
No EMF
No anomalies noted.

Garage
85- 90 degrees
Compass changing directions when walking a line parallel to garage door.  No explanation for that one.
Nothing electrical near garage door. The garage door appears to be a single layer.
EMF noted around door frame between front and back of garage.  Appeared to be electrical because  EMF not evident when light was turned off.

Attic
Three members were brave enough to venture into the attic.  Approx 101 degrees up there.

Conclusion:
Research needs to be done on whereabouts of the teenager who left the journal behind.
It was thought by the sensitives that she may have passed on and is checking on her possessions or possibly looking for someone to validate her existence.  Her journal and poems were very dark and disturbing.

Zsolt's report:
Since I'm new, reports weren't too spectacular, various temperatures and compass readings in rooms. Tried something different with sketching each room and indicating where said readings took place in rooms but not too sure about practicality. Feedback on that would be most appreciated.

Feelings: I didn't really feel anything; I don't think that I'm a sensitive. Although I definitely felt that it was a good idea to replace entities physical belongings back in attic.

Photos:  There was only one photo that stood out from the others, the rest were pretty unremarkable, but the one with the T.V. in the living room is worth checking out.  It's a strange image, but interesting. Most everything (note items on counter top) are in focus, yet there is a wispy-blurriness around the T.V. and window.

Village Court Investigation
Andrea A.

Silent Walk-through:
During the initial walk-through I felt a draft in the 2nd back bedroom (on the right side of the house) while standing between the ajar closet doors. I also felt an "eerie" feeling while standing in the larger garage area. Something drew my attention to the far left corner of the room where we picked up strange fluctuations with the compass. I also felt a chill while standing in the center of the garage just under the attic door.

Group Investigation:
I rec'd the strongest impressions in the dining room when my attention was brought to a large tin box sitting on a table beside an old stereo. We held the compass to each side of the box and watched as the needle became agitated. I was very reluctant to even touch the box as I had a strong foreboding feeling when I got close to it or reached out my hand. The owner of the house spoke up at that time and told us that the box contained items belonging to a young girl who was fostered in the house by the previous owner. She gave us permission to the open the box and within it was a folder containing personal mementos of the girl along with a sketchbook containing loose-leaf papers with haphazard journal entries. As I was holding the journal in my hand I got a strong impression of "illness" or "suicide" (the actual words reverberating through my mind).
We walked through the house back to the bedroom afore-mentioned and again I felt a chill while standing in front of the closet doors.
In the garage I felt the same eeriness though not as strong. While my teammates were taking pictures in the attic I got a strong feeling that told me that the right side of the attic (if you were facing the door leading into the living area of the house) was a significant point of activity. No photos, however, turned up any visible activity.

Theory:
After our interview with the homeowner and our investigation I put the pieces together to form a theory that I think might fit. My theory is that the "entity" in the house is the young author of the drawings and journal, whose name is Sophia. Her writing was very angry and very self-damning which would lead one to believe it is quite possible that she would commit suicide and might have committed suicide after moving out of the house. I do not believe that if she killed herself she did so at the Village Court residence. Part of me believes that what I experienced while doing the investigation was merely a residual haunting, that is I got impressions from her journal and sketchbook as well as the energy that she had left behind in the house. However, I do believe the homeowner is telling the absolute truth when she says that she has felt someone in the house with her and seen a "shadow" or heard noises. I did not actually encounter a spirit while I was in the house and I would see how that would be likely because if there were a bunch of strange people tampering with my things I would be anti-social as well. I would find a nice quiet place to hide rather than giving them a show. Sophia was a very private person and I do not feel that she liked having her things disrupted or taken from the attic where the owners had found them. My theory is that because of her estranged relationship with her parents, particularly her mother, if she is in the house she is attracted to the homeowner because she has observed her maternal interactions with her children. Part of her might want to reach out and she is just trying to get her attention and receive the sort of warmth in death that she did not receive in life. It is obvious that when the homeowner read Sophia's poems and journals she felt compassion and sympathy and I am sure that this is something that Sophia appreciates. The homeowner stated that the incidents intensified once she moved Sophia's things down from the attic though she wasn't clear on the exact chain of events (i.e. when she saw the presence standing over her bed it was at a time when some of Sophia's things were on the bookshelf beside the bed - she moved them later).

Conclusion:
I think that one thing the homeowner could try is talking to the spirit. She could let the entity know that this is her house and that the spirit is welcome to stay, but to please not disrupt things. I think it would also be highly successful if emotion or sympathy is expressed at this time as well. The spirit would be much more responsive if she or he was treated as a person since it really is a person, just a person transformed by mortality. I also suggested to the homeowner that she should put Sophia's belongings back up into the attic. One of my teammates mentioned this while we were having our interview with the owner and at first I didn't feel it would do much good, but the more the interview continued, the more I had a pervasive sense that this is what the spirit might want.

Silent Walk Through

Dining Room -
86.5 Degrees
No EMF noted
Compass began to spin on table and then on antique
console stereo.  Further investigation showed that
could have been explained by stereo equipment in
console.

Kitchen/Laundry Room -
85 Degrees
EMF tested true by electrical appliances.  Expected.
No other readings.

Living Room -
86 Degrees
No EMF or other readings.

Hallway at front entrance -
84 Degrees
No EMF or other readings.

Master Bedroom -
Temperature Change - 84.83.82 Degrees at different
points in room.
No EMF or other readings.

Bathroom of Master BD -
81 Degrees
No EMF or other readings.

Bedroom #2 - Goofy's Room -
Temperature Change - 84.82 Degrees
No EMF or other readings.

Bathroom in hallway -
82 Degrees
No EMF or other readings.

Bedroom #3 - Turtle Room -
82 Degrees
No EMF or other readings.

Office -
Temperature change - 83.84 Degrees thought to be b/c
of size of room and large window located in room.
No EMF or other readings.

Inner Garage Room -
85 Degrees
Compass changed direction in the room.  At one point
of room to one direction and at another point of the
room changed direction to be opposite.
No EMF or other readings.

Outer Garage Room -
89 Degrees
Compass direction again changed.
No EMF or other readings.

Outside Parameter -
Two separate compasses changed directions around garage door.  Door is not electrical and no electrical
wiring could be detected by EMF or found by sight.

On second walk through, EMF readings found in hallway. One EMF found readings while one did not.  At that point, a change occurred where the other EMF picked up readings and the first one did not.  The EMF meters were within 6 or less inches of each other.  And as soon as it has started, it stopped abruptly.  No detection of wiring could be found, no lighting.  No explanation of both EMF meters not detecting at the same time.

Belongings of one person who had previously lived in the residence were found by current resident.  The
belongings were found to be that of a young girl, who apparently had been very depressed and this is found through her writings.  Her writings were very depressed and spoke of possible harm to herself.  It
is believed by the sensitives that this might be the cause of the disturbance.

The Village in Brandon
Team members: Brandy, Andrea, (oops, sorry I forgot Andrea's husband or
boyfriend's name), and myself

We arrived late getting there because we got lost. We ended up missing the
Turtle Room, Small bedroom and bathroom on the first walk-thru.

Study/Computer Room- No strange feelings in this room. Just very warm due to
temperature outside.

Inner Garage/Storage Room- Had a real uneasy feeling standing in the doorway to
this room. Didn't like the feeling I was getting in it. Standing under the trap
door for the attic, I started to get a headache feeling in the back of my skull.
Ended up having to leave the room for a bit. Strange thing, once i left the room
headache feeling went away. I could only stay in this room for small time
blocks. I kinda felt like the room was closing in on me at time. Overall just a
real uneasy feeling in here. Not sure what it was from.

Garage- Nothing abnormal in here. I believe the compasses were acting up a bit.
EMF bounced a bit in here but I think it was because it was near the camera.

Master Bedroom- nothing to strange happened in here. I did feel for a bit like I
was being watched but nothing really note worthy. Closet seemed to draw my
attention but I'm not exactly sure why.

Living Room (rear)- Nothing unusual here

Kitchen and Laundry Room- Nothing unusual here either

Dining area- Compasses were acting up and moving in oppsite directions when
placed on the stereo. Could me magnetic inside the actual stereo. There was a
small tin box in here that held possessions of a past resisdent. A 14 year old
girl. once objects were removed from said box, I expierenced uneasy feelings.
Didn't want to get to close to the objects from inside. After I was more
comfortable around the materials I took a look at the stuff and found letters,
poems and journal entries from said girl. She seemed to be depressed and
possibly suicidal.Could'nt seemed to look through all of it because headache
came back full force.

Sitting Room in Front of house- Nothing really in here

Backyard by swing set- Smelt something decaying here. Not really related though
just something I smelt.

Attic- Didn't go up in it because I'm highly allergic to dust. a few members
went up in there. Temp. read 101 degrees

EMF acted up near electric boxes in hallway.

Overall, Not sure if there was an actual spirit here. If so they didn't really
make themselves present. Something for sure is here. It could be just some
residue feelings from the depressed teen. I think it would be something we would
need to go back and check out after the objects of the girl were placed back
where they were found.

Village Court
Brandy Stark's report

Present:  Andrea, Bob, John, Charles, Linda, Brandy, Avri, Zsolt.
Homeowner, her son, and boyfriend.
Pets:  Ferret, fish, turtle.

Investigation started at 6:45.  Avri and Zsolt arrived a bit late.
A/C was broken.  Fans had been turned off for our visit.

Pre-investigation:  Unless otherwise stated, the EMF was on the 0  3 scale.

Bathroom:  78 degrees, cooler than the rest of the house.
Bedroom:  Child's room.  77 degrees (also tiled).  EMF:  0.2
Members who had a compass noticed that the compass was changing degrees.  There was day glow writing on the walls and a flowery aroma in the room. Homeowner had sprayed the room before we arrived.

Bedroom 2:  (Turtle room)
77 degrees
Wind felt in doorway of closet.
.2 EMF
I had chills on my legs.  Andrea had a cold feeling in the room.

The study:  I had chills on my legs in the study.  EMF was .3.

Garage/storage area/attic access:
The compasses that various team members had started to act oddly in these areas.  The compasses were turning nearly a quarter turn from true North.  Various compasses were used.  However, the EMF meter did not detect any changes.  I did put the EMF meter to a light socket, and it did register EMF.

We stayed in the garage, which was subsequently much warmer than the rest of the house.  The garage could not be used by anyone; part of it had been made into a bedroom.  The remainder of the garage was very small; large enough for another bedroom or storage.  Yet, the compass flipping only occurred in a couple of areas.  One was near a basketball poll; the others ran along the garage door.

Attic:  HOT in the attic.  A lot of old stuff up there; could not stand up straight.

3rd bedroom:  chills on legs.

Dining room:  Compass turning.
Living room:  I caught a bright orb image in this area.

Group gathering:
Linda:  Noted the dining room that her team's compass turned; she felt chills on her legs.
Garage:  compass turning in the front part of the garage  near the doors.

Charles:  dining room: compass moving.  2nd walk through: nothing unusual, though he felt chills near the closet.  He felt that things were pretty odd with closets.

Bob:  Compass readings, front door, and garage over corner.  Ends of doors, the compass was flipping east to west.

Andrea:  Turtle bedroom:  felt a draft.  Kept feeling that there was something around the corner in the storage room.  She also felt something under the attic access.  She felt a draft near the back door.

Avri:  Noted she was late.  Strange feeling, 1st inner garage with attic access  headache.
She felt a sharp pain in her head in the master be3droom, too.
Zsolt:  TV area had an unusual photograph, potential glare

Brandy:  chills in various areas.  Noted VERY low EMF.

John: No EMF.  Theorized that that the low EMF may indicate odd wiring (we noticed that when fans were turned on, EMF went off the scale in certain areas).  The metal may be magnetized through the odd EMF and wiring.

Second walk through:  Garage: Compasses still turning, both inside and out.
Dining room: Compasses turning over the radio.  No unusual EMF.  Later images show orbs in the area where the compass was turning.  We took compasses across the room; they turned near a stuffed animal, and again over the radio.  When we went back a few minutes later, the compasses no longer turned.

In the dining room/living room area, there was a box of items that attracted the team's attention.  Homeowner told us it may relate to phenomena; we took items with us through the house.

Avri reported feeling a headache with the book.

We attempted an EVP in the turtle bedroom; no known results.

Homeowner Interview:
Home owner reports hearing noises in hallways; as if something was dropped.  On two different occasions, the family believed that someone had broken into the home.  Noises and footsteps were heard.  Yet, upon investigation no one else was found in the home.

When two members of the family were home, they heard the garage door shutting.  Again, they thought someone was in the house, but nothing was there.
The homeowner reported that one night she woke up and saw something standing in her room.  At the same time, her daughter had a paralysis dream in a bedroom down the hall.

Noises are heard in the attic; when the homeowner went into the attic she found a lot of items from a prior homeowner.  It seems that this woman kept many foster kids in her care.  One of those children was a teenager from a broken home.  Her journals, papers, and some drawings were in the attic.  The poetry and journal entries were dark; she had suicidal tendencies.  She was unhappy with the way her life went and felt empty.

Her items were those stored in a box downstairs.  This box was in the area near the odd compass readings downstairs.

Homeowner does not know what happened to the girl.  One of her last journal entries indicated that she thought she might be pregnant.

Conclusions:
I'm not sure what to make of this investigation.  I feel as if there was something odd going on in the house.  The compass readings and EMF may have a natural explanation, but the one orb image I caught in the living room was a dark milky white orb, well defined.

The homeowner did feel as if there was something there.  Activity increased when she took the journals out of the attic and read them.  The SPIRITS present also looked at the journals.  This girl had many problems to overcome with her life; it is not beyond the idea that she may have committed suicide.  The journal entries also may have indicated a form of schizophrenia.

The entity may be a residue from the prior occupants.  Foster children are in a time of upheaval and uncertainty in their lives; emotions are strong.  Yet, according to the homeowner, it had a strong independent nature; it was not a mere home recording.

All present agreed that the journals needed to go back to the attic.  Homeowner agreed to put them back.  More research on the names we found needs to be done.
