Beth- I sensed a woman of Eastern European descent in the tea room. I got the name Mari. In the kitchen area I got the impression that employees felt like they were being watched.

Beth- During the evp session, I picked up on a young man with light hair dressed in white uniform. The man was agitated, he claimed that his death came from his own reckless behavior. Someone else was demonstrating this behavior and he wanted them to stop. I got the name Sean, but do not know if this is the young man communicating or the person he was telling me about with the reckless behavior. I was unable to determine if the man was related to the site or a drop in.

5. What technical observations did you note during the investigation? For purposes of categorizing data, please post your first name, followed by your response.
Mary: As the contact in this investigation, I spent most of the time with the business's representative. I did turn on a KII meter and observe for a brief period. It gave a high reading consistently during that time whch is very unusual for this meter. EMF meters however registered extremely high levels inside the dining area particularly. There seems to be a natural explanation as there are breaker boxes in that room and a window air conditioning unit. Cables that are connected to the security system are secured on the upper shelves that run the perimeter of the room.
6. What sensitive observations did you note during the investigation? For purposes of categorizing data, please post your first name, followed by your response.
Mary: I personally had no experience. I did however observe one of my teammates who is a sensitive, have communication with an entity that seemed to be worried and agitated.

(The following is taken from "the Chattaway Story" written by Dorothy Chandler based on her memories for the NE Neighborhood Association in 1985.) The Chattaway is an historical location that dates back to 1922. Orignally the building named the Four Corners Grocery. It ad a small counter on the outside where items such as candy, soft drinks and cigarettes were sold. Run by Mrs Klinger, an elderly woman, who often fell asleep in her rocking chair. When a customer came in, her pet parror would wake her with his calls. During this time an addition was built onto the east side of the store that resembled a porch. It was screened in and had booths. Roasted peanuts were a great favorite and their shells littered the dirt floor In front of the store was a gas pump with the glass bulb at the top. Mr and Mrs Franks ran the soda counter area. They were former trapeze artists with the Ringling Bros Circus. Mrs Franks was 4'8'' tall. One day a rather large man attempted to rob the store while she was there alone. She picked up anything she could get her hands on and beat him with it until he took off running down 4th St. Whihc the repeal of Prohibition the store began the sale of wine and beer. It was at this time that it became known as the Chattaway Drive-In and employed 2 car hops. In the mid-1940s, the Younts took over and hamburgers were put on the menu. Within the next 4 or five years, several others (Jack and Maude Steidle, Jerry and Anny Koenke, and Kitty Caden) but noe stayed long. Some changes were made during this time. The grocery was replaced by a recreation room with tables, chairs and two shuffleboards. In 1951 Mrs Helen Lund took over the business and it began to really boom. She added shrimp and chicken baskets among other menu items. This was also the birth of the Chattaburger (the signature of the restaurant even to day). Her son Everett joined her in 1954. He had a wonderful singing voice and often sang there. He was also an actor who played at the St Pete Little Theater. Patrons were encouraged to join in when Everett sang, accompanied on the ukelele by Johnny Pourtless. According to other news articles from the St Pete Times, the Chattaway was almost lost when the then owner put up the property for sale. Everett and his wife Jillian were able to purchase the land after some $20,000 was raised by those citizens who had for so many years enjoyed the restaurant. At some point the recreation room was transformed into a dining room that reflects Jillian's British heritage. (In the early years of the grocery, the owners lived in a one room home where the kitchen and store room now are. )

Brandy
I was running late with this report so I did not do the typical SPIRITS form report.  I did examine all photos and there was nothing positive. The Paranormal Puck did not come up with anything unusual.  EMF was consistently higher in the dining area, kitchen, and bar areas.  The likely cause is the kitchen equipment -- the EMF is also not unusual for an older structure.

I recorded about 1 hour of EVPs.  This is where I got my one piece of data.  There is a small clip that takes place during a SPIRITS discussion.  The members were talking about seeing a shadowy figure in the back of one room, and if this was caused by a natural or supernatural cause.  At this juncture, a small child is heard on the EVP saying "Daddy" (I think).  There were no children present and I do not know what this means.

Beth did come in contact with a male entity who was aggitated and pacing.  A young man, light hair and complexion.

The history I knew from having lunch in the building with Mary and Verna.  Both of them sensed an older male presence pacing back and forth in the dining area.  I am not sure who this young man might be.  My suspicion is that he may be a drop in entity and that the former owner may be visiting the building.  However, based on what I know of the former owner, he may not have been a big believer in the supernatural.  As such, he may have chosen not to interact with us.

Brandy's update:  11-5-09

Had dinner there with friends. Asked staff about any changes or updates to the haunting.  None reported.  Pictures in the dining room showed nothing.  However, I did get a good shot of the Hallowe'en decorations (which are creepy! ;)
