Angel Cabaret
Nov. 21, 2003
Where else but a theater can you find such and assortment of characters?  The Angel Cabaret, found in New Port Richie, is a delightful mixture of drama, personality, and the supernatural.

This was a most unusual investigation.  It started when SPIRITS member Brandy Stark met Angel Cabaret Theater owner, Jimmy Etta, after a radio interview with WTAN 1400.  A boisterous man who obviously loved his work, his eyes sparkled as he mentioned the angel that resided within his theater.

When Channel 10 took an interest in shadowing an investigation, it seemed a natural fit.  The Theater was a perfect place with its spacious interior and media-friendly attitude.  And so it started.

The SPIRITS team converged at  the theater.  With the number of people, the group split into two teams, each with 3 SPIRITS members and 1 Channel 10 employee.  One group went upstairs to the costume area, while the other toured the dining room.  The two groups then switched search locations so that all traversed the entirety of the theater.

The upstairs area, filled with an assortment of colorful costumes, held some "residue" presences that the psi-sensitives detected.  A room of carpentry tools gave off a male presence and the term "safety."

Directly downstairs is a kitchen and dressing room area.  These produced more tangible results as equipment stopped working.  At least two team members reported camera trouble, and one went through nearly 3 sets of battery changes until her camera would take pictures again.

The dining area hosts the theater's stage, where a female presence appears to reside.  She seemed content where she was and is enthralled with the theater and its patrons.  Several sensed that while she was alive she had also acted.

The tables, themselves, also had very unusual readings.  EMF was found hovering by a front table where photographs later revealed orb images.  The SPIRITS, it appeared, were the entertainment for the evening.

A possible apportation occurred as the team focused more on the dining area.  One team member went to retrieve some more film.  She left the group to go to the front lobby where the miscellaneous equipment was stored.  She set her pen and notebook down, retrieved the film, then turned to pick up the remainder of her belongings.  Her pen was gone.

After a thorough search of the area, she left to return to the group.    A second team member went back with her to help search for the pen.  After several minutes of searching both gave up and prepared to return to the rest.  A suggestion was made that the group try to ask for the pen to be returned.  It was then that the pen was found sitting neatly on one of the chairs in the lobby.

Upon rejoining the others, a woman by the name of "Rosetta" was speaking to the psi-sensitive.  She was an older woman who had passed on.  She seemed close to one of the theater's staff that was present.  The sensitive picked up on the nature of her death , and some of her interests in the theater.  When SPIRITS members asked to try and photograph the entity she hastily retreated.

At this point, the team decided to interview the staff and owners of the theater.   Here we learned how the Angel Cabaret received its name. The owners had several encounters with a man with piercing blue eyes in two other acting and theater businesses from the past.  Both times, the man appeared in strange circumstances.  His mannerisms and physical looks were startling, with strong angular features.  Though both visits were of a mundane nature, both owners felt that something supernatural had happened.

When they opened the Angel Cabaret unusual things started to occur.  One of the most impressive was that a stage light with a stencil of an angel on it continuously turned on of its own accord.  When the stencil was moved from one light to another, the entity turned on only the light hosting the stencil.

One of the staff present revealed that "Rosetta" was her grandmother who had passed away many years before.  The information picked up by the sensitive was accurate; her grandmother was also camera shy and tried to avoid the lens.

The spirit of a young blonde woman had also been spotted at the theater.  No one knew who she was, but she was peaceful and pleasant.

Also, pens are known to vanish by the number in the managing office.  Could it be that someone is preparing for an autograph in the afterlife?

Theaters are known to attract entities as the provide entertainment and energy.  With the quality of acting and the multitude of theater performances, the Angel Cabaret is a guarantee to entertain  on all levels of existence.

Temperatures Recorded / E.M.F. (ELECTICAL MAGNETIC FIELDS) Recorded:

Dressing Rooms 1 and 2:  73-76.5 Deg. Fahrenheit with no spikes.  No major EMF found in either dressing room (.02-.20) but there was exposed wiring that was not shielded which did cause some EMF readings to jump slightly.

Stage and Dinning Room Areas:  73-76.5 Deg. Fahrenheit, with no spikes.  Major EMF found (.02-.88),  compasses in this room rotated wildly, and several of the team members found electronic equipment to fail, batteries to discharge and recharge, and other un explained occurrences.  See below for more detailed information.  Pictures of orbs and other anomalies recorded by various team members.

Public Restrooms (Both Men and Women's): 72.5-76 Deg. Fahrenheit, with no spikes.  No major EMF (.01-.10), no real interest of any kind in this area of the theater.

Kitchen and Serving Areas:  72.5-80 Deg. Fahrenheit, some EMF found (.01-.80) with a couple of spikes.   All of the spikes and ab-normal EMF was found to be associated with electrical wiring, and commercial kitchen appliances including freezers, refrigeration units, mixers, warmers, ect..

Upstairs Storage and Supply Area:  73.5-74 Deg. Fahrenheit, No major EMF (.01-.04).

Upstairs Dressing Rooms #1 and #2:  72-76.5 Deg. Fahrenheit, with no spikes.  EMF (.01-.08).

Upstairs Shop and Costume Design Areas:  74-78.5 Deg. Fahrenheit with no spikes.  Major EMF found (.01-1.38), some of the larger EMF was attributed to exposed electrical boxes, wiring, and other heavy equipment that was used to produce the 'Sets' for the stage, but, some of the higher range EMF was recorded away from these devices, and out in the open areas and near the costumes.

Foyer and Box Office Areas:  72-74 Deg. Fahrenheit with no spikes, No major EMF found (.01-.08).

Summations:

This investigation was attended by a somewhat smaller group of investigators at the owner's request.  We were also accompanied by two members of the press, as listed above, who shadowed us along the investigation to produce a story on our team. The owners are a real sweet couple who are husband and wife, both thespians, with above average intelligence and abilities.  Both hold respectable positions in the theater community.  A member of the theater's staff was also present, and she seemed very interested in our findings and to try to figure out what has been happening at her place of employment.  After our group assembled, we broke off into groups and began gathering data, including EMF readings, Temperature Readings, Photographic Pictures (Digital, Instant, and Traditional film were used), magnetic compasses,  and audio recorders (Both Digital and Cassette/Micro cassette formats used.).  We went from room to room, and then re assembled to go over our findings.  Then we re examined some areas of interest, and finally talked with the business owners and the employee to find out what they had experienced.

Peaks of Interest:

Our team divided into two teams of three people each, and began our "Dry Run" through the establishment.  The theater was very clean and well kept, except for certain areas of storage which seemed to be in the process of being inventoried or cleaned due to the fact of the theater being in-between shows.  The air-conditioning had been turned off, as well as most other electrical devices.  The weather was clear. Electrical lines were observed running near the walls, and in other areas as well as large scale commercial equipment (sound, lights, kitchen, ect.) were found around the theater which had to be catalogued, as not to produce any false positive readings.

As our groups started out, my group started a very methodical fact gathering search.  We started out in the back dressing rooms, and proceeded thru them to the stage and dinning area.  I was most appreciative of the owners and employee who granted us a very unique, un-inhibited access to the facility.  Our group literally walked in every place of the theater, both public access and employee only areas.  This was important to get a feel for the business, and to make sure that no 'outside influences' were behind the scenes to try to alter our findings.  The two people (reporter/cameraman) from WTSP were also following us and documenting us and the findings with their own cameras, and notes.  I must say that they too, were very respectful, and did not interfere with our work.  They did ask us questions, follow, and film us during the investigation, but they were very careful not to interrupt or get in our way, so to speak.

During our first "Dry Run" through the Dinning Room, our team found several spikes of EMF and Temperatures in this area.  Some were found to be associated with the Wet Bar in one corner of the Dinning Area, but these were found to be due to the refrigeration units, and other electrical devices in this area.  We also found higher then normal EMF and Temperature readings near the sound and light control booth, and the small boutique area near the Dinning Room entrance.  Again, all of these readings were found to be coming from the light and sound equipment, or other electrical equipment in these areas.  What was truly amazing was the empty tables in the center of the dinning hall, they were giving off spikes of Temperature and EMF readings to everyone in our group.  We checked under and above the tables, looked at the candles and tablecloths, and even the chairsbut could not find what was causing the spikes and strange readings.  I personally recorded the following spikes from various tables (EMF - .20, .24, .35, .56, and .88) and (Temperatures Fahrenheit 66.5 thru 94.5) and our compasses were going in circles at these same tables.  Very interesting since there was no electrical, air conditioning vents, or anything except for the table, chairs, a table cloth, and candle in the middle of a room.

As our group proceeded thru the rest of the theater, we did find explainable EMF and Temperature readings coming from various light and sound, kitchen, and power tool equipment.  We also found a couple of places where wiring was exposed (insulated, but not shielded) in back rooms and the kitchen areas.  These readings were quickly confirmed as normal due to the consistent nature of the readings and proximity to large amounts of electricity to keep these items operational.  The interesting findings were that of the upstairs Shop and Costume Design Areas as well as the mentioned Dinning Area.

The Upstairs Shop and Costume Design Areas did have some exposed lights, and extension cords running around them, but these were catalogued and explained.  The odd readings came from the racks and racks of costumes that were in rows.  I did notice a 'chill' at one point, but could not confirm a temperature drop with my thermal thermometer.  I did however pick up a spike on the EMF meter of .98 and another of 1.38 while scanning the area around the chill in the racks of clothing and costumes.   Others from our team also reported feeling 'chilled' near the Shop Area, but again I was unable to get any temperature variations on my thermometer.  Once again we noticed that the compass was spinning wildly in this area as well.

After both teams had completed our 'Dry Run' we took a quick, five minute break for water, to change batteries, and the like.  While Investigator Amy was in the Foyer, she placed her pen down on the table to get a drink or change batteries.  When she finished getting reset for the next phase of our investigation, her pen was gone.  She stated she looked around, but could not find it and asked to borrow one from the rest of the team.  This would not normally concern me, but the owners said that pens disappeared all the time at the theater.  Sr. Investigator Brandy suggested that we politely ask for the pen back and see what happens.  When Amy asked out loud for her pen to be put back, she went back to the Foyer and her pen was on the chair next to the table where she had been before.  This is interesting since the doors to the establishment were locked, there was only one way in and out of that area, and all of the people from the investigation were in plain sight and accounted for during the entire event.  This event really peaked my interest.

As both teams re-assembled we discussed our initial findings.  We all agreed that we needed to focus on the Dinning Area and the Upstairs Shop and Costume Areas.  We re-examined the tables from before, and found a very interesting situation.  As we were all converging on a particular table near the front of the stage, all of our cameras and electrical equipment started acting funny.  Some in our team reported battery failure, just all of the sudden without any warnings.  Others reported that their batteries were being 'recharged' somehow while still in use.  Cameras required longer times between flashes, quit working, and started multiple flashes as well.  Compasses on the table started to spin, and the team did pick up some EMF spikes.  The owners stated that they normally do not allow flash photography in there establishment due to the type of business they are in, but the will occasionally let the press in for a story with their cameras.  We asked the camera man if his equipment was being effected, and he stated his equipment was working fine.  He proceeded to walk over to where we were and our equipment started to act normally as well.  Once again, this event really peaked my interest.

We proceeded to take more readings and pictures now that everything was again working, but when someone started to change an audio tape and record sounds, our Sensitive investigator felt a major chill, and then said she felt a presence leave the area.  After a few minutes, we headed upstairs for the Shop and Costume Area.

We did not find anything out of the ordinary during the second visit to this area.  I would surmise that what ever was happening had decided to call it a night at this point.  We asked out loud for any spirit or entity that might be there to move the needles on our equipment, give us a visual display, or an audio display, but nothing happened.   We continued for several minutes taking pictures, taking readings, and looking around, but nothing exciting really happened.  We decided it was time to talk with the owners and the employee and try to research the background of the establishment, and the employees of the establishment.

After talking with all three of the owners/employees, our Sensitive Investigators found that the names of some of the possible entities they had felt were close, if not exactly, the correct names of relatives that had 'passed' years ago.  They also were very, and I do mean very, specific as to appearances, events from the past that we had no way of knowing about, and other pieces of information.  All three people reported that lighting equipment occasionally produces an "Angel" figure on the wall when unplugged, and shut off at the breaker box.  This "Angel" has even appeared the next day after locking the building and shutting the power off when employees have entered the building to prepare for a new show.  The couple who owns the business also related a story to us about a possible 'Angel' that had influenced their lives at separate times, years apart.  These stories were very consistent with other stories that other people have told our team, right down to the appearance, manners, situation, disappearance/appearance, and age of the 'Angel' figure.  The details were so close, that Sr. Investigator Brandy even looked up some of the notes from other investigations to make sure the details were the same.  Once again, this really peaked my interest.

Conclusions:

With all of the information listed above in this long report (I do apologize to anyone reading this, there is just so much information from this investigation) I do believe that a "Supernatural Event" is taking place at this theater.  Is it haunted? No, not in the traditional sense.  I believe that there is one or more 'entities' or 'after images' that are present.  They have not ever been the cause of any maliciousness or intentional harm to the business or the people associated with the business, but I do believe they are still in our 'plain of existence' and sharing with us as best they can.  Depending on one's belief system, it could be unclear as to what you might describe this situation.  Is it a 'Guardian Angel' looking out for the business and it's employees?  Is it people that have 'passed on' and do not know they have died?  Or is it just a plain ole spirit who wants to have some fun or has ties to the owners or the building?  We may never know for sure, but I would like to re-investigate this facility in the future to try to find out more information.

Angel Cabaret Theatre

What a beautiful theatre, such warm and wonderful feelings inside.  I guess the term "Angel" fits quite well. The investigation began at approximately 7:00 PM.  Present was myself, Brandy, Amy, Cindy, Jeanne and Sean.  The owners of the theatre and Channel 10 employees were also present.  The spirits within were quite excited about having visitors and were eager to let their presence be known.
As we walked through the dinning room/stage area I immediately felt a difference in the atmosphere.  It was a much lighter feeling.  I could sense that someone was on my back.  It was as if I was lying on a bed of ice, only my back touching it.  Once I left this area, it jumped off.  I sensed a female in her late 20's (29) standing on the stage.  She said one of her stage names was "Adeline or Adriane".  She was slender and very pretty.  This very excited spirit followed us through the dinning room and upstairs to the dressing room.
While in the dressing room on the second floor the female energy stated her real name was Emily Baker.  She later advised she used to work at the Show Boat Dinner Theatre in 1974.  As of this time, I have not confirmed this information.  I was told later by the business owner that he and his wife did work at the Show Boat Theatre in the 70's.  Question is, did Miss Emily see them there and take up a liking to them.  Then followed them to their new place?  It was also confirmed that there is a slender female spirit in her late twenties hanging around the theatre and had been seen by several employees.  While we were in the dressing rooms Emily would run through the clothing racks and grab the clothes as she went.  She appeared to be a delightful spirit.
I also ran across a gentleman spirit possibly named William.  William was an older man, 57-63.  He had a heavier stomach and beard.  I heard him tell me the name "George", then moments later, say "Kayhill".  I specifically remembered this due to it reminding me of the show "Walker, Texas Ranger".  One of the actor's last names is Kayhill.  It had brought a chuckle to me.  It was later determined that George Kayhill does in fact exist and was one of the original team members who helped get the theatre up and running.
Once we arrived back downstairs in the dinning room and stage area I began speaking with a woman who said her name was Rose.  She then made it perfectly clear that the name was not just Rose, but was a longer name like "Rosetta".  She did not like being called Rose, although she was at times.  Rosetta had passed away from something like a brain aneurism on her left side.  The aneurism started through her left neck artery and went into her head, causing death.  She was asleep when this happened.  The business owner acknowledged that her grandmother's name was Rosella (hated being called Rose, but was at times) and did indeed die of a stroke on her left side.  She died peacefully in her sleep.  What a wonderful conformation for the business owner that her grandmother was still around.
Talking privately with one of the other business owners, I told him that his grandfather had come in to say hello.  He confirmed that both his father and grandfather lived on a farm and had a fenced area with horses.  Although he had never been to the farm himself, the spirits gave me a good picture of it for him.  He seemed delighted to hear from his family again.
The most interesting event of the evening took place around the two front tables in the dining room.  Every time I went near the tables my camera refused to work and locked up.  I went through four sets of batteries and it still refused to cooperate.  Other team members had the same exact problem.  The other tables and rooms in the theatre gave me no problems.  When I asked to take a picture of the entity that was being a pistol towards us, I had even more problems.  It was determined not to let us take pictures of it.  Towards the end of the hunt and while we were sitting at the same tables I was able to use my camera again.  One picture shows the entity (an orb) over Brandy's camera playing with it.  I noted that she also had problems with her camera during this time.
What can I say about this hunt?  It was a delight. One of the best I have been on.  The information that came through to me was very accurate and benefiting.  The camera problems and the pictures of our spirit playing around with them were great.  The atmosphere in the theatre was uplifting and it made for a great hunt.  Unfortunately, I did not get any scientific readings with the EMF meter that could confirm any of the information or pictures we received.  Personally, I did not need them.  I got enough conformation that made me believe the "Angel Theatre" has many happy spirits hanging around.       .  THE END

Jeanne's Report:
When we arrived at the Angel Cabaret, we were met by 2 people from Channel 10 who were doing a story on our group. They were   a reporter, DeAnna, and a camera man. In the theatre, we met with the owners, a husband and wife. Our group had 6 members present. We divided into 2 groups of 3, and one of the TV crew went with each group. I went with Sean and Amy, and DeAnna followed us. She video taped us, and observed as we went about our business. The camera man went with Brandy, Cindy, and Denise.  We started in the back dressing rooms. We got no unexplained EMF readings there. Then we went out onto the stage. We got no readings there, either.  I had my 8mm video camera, and started started taping there. I also took 35mm photos. Next, we walked through the entire dining room, table by table. We got a little EMF activity around a few tables in the front of the dining room. At the back of the theatre, we climbed up to the sound and light booth. Amy heard the name "George" there, and she also had a dizzy feeling. We went through the bar, kitchen, buffet line, and bathrooms, and I got no unexplained EMF in any of them.  Last, we went upstairs where there were 2 more dressing rooms, and a large prop and costume area. We took lots of pictures, and video.  I got no EMF anywhere up there, but my companions got a few spikes around the clothing racks. We went downstairs and met up with the rest of the group in the dining room to compare notes. We all decided to concentrate on the costume room, and the dining room. During the meeting, several members of the group were having camera problems- dead batteries, flashes not working, etc.  I had no problems with mine, and continued to video tape. We returned upstairs to the costume room, but all seemed quiet this time. No EMF spikes, and Denise, our sensitive, was getting nothing. Back down in the dining room, several members were getting spikes around a table, and Denise began hearing a woman named Rose or Rosetta. After the investigation, we sat down with the owners, and discussed the findings. They confirmed that there was a deceased family member named Rosella. Denise had heard several other names too, one who was an actress named Emily. She said that she had worked at the Showboat theatre in the 1970's. The owners stated that they had also worked at that theatre at that time. Both Denise and Amy had heard the name George, and we were told that there had been an employee by that name.  The owners told us about all the things that had been happening in the theatre, sightings of a female figure, pens constantly disappearing, an angel light that stayed on after it was turned off, etc. It was all very interesting. After this meeting, Brandy met with the TV crew for an interview, and the rest of us visited with the owners. They were very nice, and sincerely interested in what we do. This was my first investigation in a place other than a private home, and it was really a pleasure. If there are spirits there, they picked a wonderful place to hang out. On reviewing my video tape and pictures later, I found nothing unusual other than some glare problems from the TV crew's lights.

Investigation:

Very little happened upstairs.  We gave that up and went back to the dining room area.  While there, a couple of things happened.

Amy went out to switch film.  She set her pen down.  She finished changing out equipment and went to gather her things to come back in.  She could not find the pen.  She came in and reported that to me.  She looked all over the lobby despite putting the pen in open view, it was now gone.

Brandy and Amy went back to look for the pen; neither one of us could find it.  Finally, Amy found it on a chair in the foyer (possibly the one Cindy reported having her compass spinning).

Meanwhile, Denise started to pick up names and energy in the dining room.  She picked up a girl that died by the name of Emily Baker.  She was an actress, and died at home (1974) but performed in the theater in the past.

Denise heard Rose, Rosetta, relative of someone present in the theater.  She died while sleeping, and remembered the Showboat Dinner Theater in the 1970s.  The more we focused on this entity the shier she got; she faded away quickly.

Interview:

The Plaza is 50 years old; it's te oldest plaza in Pasco County.  Before it was the Angel Cabaret, it was a May's Fabric Store.

They did sing a song with one of the plays performed in the theater called "Adelade's Lament" -- it's a song from Guys and Dolls performed 1 year ago.

Business owners report having angelic experiences before:  in 1991 and 92; they owned their first performing arts plaza.  They had a blue eyed stranger come into the theater; he vanished very quickly.
The same presence was present at the Angel Garden Café.

The lights are often on; there is a light with an image of an angel on it that has been found turned on when no one turned it on; or it is found on in the morning when all staff left and the light was off the night before.

Pens are also reported missing at all times.

Darlene, a staff manager, was present.  She said that the "Rose" was her grandmother.  She was very bashful in life.  She was very bashful.  She died of a stroke on her left slide while sleeping; she was 90 years old and died in 1999.

The name Emily Baker was not remembered by anyone.

They reported that there was a blonde woman who was often sited in the theater; she had been seen going to the ladies room; she was thin, blonde, shortin her 20s.

Upstairs:  Most costumes consigned or donated; formerly worn clothes.  Could it be a psy presence related to the clothes?

Bill or George Cahill?  They were individuals who assisted with the theater; lights sound, bar.

Days before the investigation:  shadows and movement were seen.

Noted that the media's cameras were not affected as the SPIRITS (civilian) cameras were with the stage.  They said that it is a rule that only the media may take pictures of actors or performers; perhaps the entity/ies were interfering with the cameras of the SPIRITS (non-media) because of this rule?

The prop room:  Jimmy's father donated the items in that room; perhaps that is the male presence that some felt there; it is a safe place.

Conclusions:
The images we received were certainly strong.  This was a unique investigation since we did have the media present.  I also learned in the following days that I was coming down with another bout of tonsillitis; I started to feel poorly that night.  That may account for some of the chills and light headedness I felt during the investigation.

I believe that there is a presence there.  Theaters are known to attract entities as the provide entertainment and energy.  They also provide a wide variety of audience members that may entertain or energize entities.  I find the idea that pens disappear to be interesting; I suggested they ask the entities for the pens back (I asked them before we left to return the pens.  I have not heard from the business owners as of yet if the pens have been returned).
I found the drop in entity interesting; Denise was dead on with that.  Several picked up odds and ends which may be strung together to indicate a singular or a couple of entities present.

The entities are harmless.  If nothing else, they guard the theater.  I find the attraction to angels to be a positive sign for all involved.

Report by Amy M Rohrsen

Silent Walk Through:
Lobby  Temp 76 degrees  No EMF detected
Dressing rooms:  Temp around 72-73 degrees  there was some EMF in the center of the room  nothing significant.
Stage  warmer however temps were only at 73-74 degrees.
Witnessed a EMF danger spike in the center of the stage.
Piano  witnessed another EMF spike.
Near one of the dining room tables witnessed a temp spike from 73-77 then back to 73 degrees.
Up on the sound board I felt very light headed and thought of the name George. I later confirmed that George was once the lighting operator.  He's still alive however maybe one of the entities was looking for him.
I had an EMF spike along the back wall.
Lady's room was consistent EMF and temps.
Upstairs was all consistent  nothing significant to report.

Findings:
Denise kept picking up a female around 29 years old  possibly named Adaline.
Upstairs felt a woman named Emily Baker.  Also felt a man possibly named William.  He has a beard and a larger stomach.
During download Denise's camera quit working.
Determined we needed to recheck the stage and upstairs dressing room.
Denise also picked up Emily as having a brain Aneurism.  She was an actress and performed here around 1974  possibly also the Show Boat Dinner Theatre.

Business Owner Interview:

The angel "gobo" (light with angel cut out) that projects an image of an angel on the wall, will not turn off  even when circuit breakers are turned off.  Door bell has also gone off on its own.  Someone has been seen in the men's room.
Darlene's grandmother, Rosella, has been seen.  She's also performed at Show Boat Theatre.
Died in 1999 of a stroke on the left side.
Both Theatre owners worked at the showboat theatre.
Lady has appeared in the doorway to the dining room AND in the ladies room.

Theatre owner mentioned an experience he had with an "angel".
Was in his car stopped  when someone tapped on his window.  Young man asked for money.  Owner gave him $2  he turned  then looked back and he was gone.  He had an angular chiseled face  and appeared to be in his late 20s.  Same man once seen again at the theatre later on.
