This case was another "null" investigation -- or, at least, it was supposed to be.  Several SPIRITS members reported sensing an entity coming in and out of the area.  It was not related to the house, to the case, or to the homeowner.  This appeared to be an entity  who popped in and out during the invesstigation simply because it was curious about what we were doing. 

The SPIRITS of St. Petersburg team has experienced this before.  We call them "drop in entities" because of this behavior --  they seem to be individuals who simply "drop in" for unknown reasons.  They are not related to the case or the people involved in the study.

In talking with other para-groups, the general concept is known.  However, few call this type of ghost by any formal name.  Perhaps a category should be created and formalized for these ghostly individuals, and research techniques attuned for them.  Curiosity compelled research into ghostly definitions to try and explore the idea of what, exactly, a "drop in entity" might be.

A web search found few entries fitting the description, and none fitting our jargon.  One source, The Astral Source , had this unique entry.

" Wasting Time Between Lives - As in reincarnation. They're waiting for the next life to come around. What better way to waste some time than being a ghost. Coming and going from the planes as you please, enjoying yourself during your sightseeing, visiting old friends to see how they're doing, and the list goes on. They're not here and not there - there just waiting in between."

Oddly, the "Ghost Whisperer Wiki" site had a series of very select definitions for ghosts.  One that might fit included the "Territorial Ghost", though note the lack of explaination:

"Description: ---Ghosts attached to a specific territory, like a house, graveyard, or even schoolyard that had significance to them in life. Unlike residula ghosts, they acknowledge living people and may even resort to violence to get them out of the territory.

Locations Spotted: --- Most often in buildings or places with violent or sad histories.

Another web site, Understanding the Different Types of Ghosts,  listed something similar, though these ghosts were described as reluctant to communicate while remaining regular visitors to the location:

"The third type of personality is the anonymous, who is, by definition, the manifestation of an obvious human being whose identity remains unknown to both the witnesses or research historians. An example of such a personality might be that of a Revolutionary War soldier who regularly appears in the cellar of an eighteenth century era home built near a battlefield. Clearly human in nature and even apparently interactive, it's identity remains anonymous mainly because it was never a resident of the place it is haunting and as such leaves no historical records that might be able to place a name to the apparition. Additionally, such entities can be among the most difficult to interact with, for unlike the familial—who is here to comfort the grieving—or the historical—who consider themselves still a part of their environment—the anonymous frequently appears to be angry, frightened or confused, and often seems to be as afraid of the still living as the living are of them. While still capable of being documented and studied, they tend to be more difficult to get to 'come out and play' and so do not generally make as good 'test cases' as others."

There was one oddity that this writer noted  in reviewing over two dozen sites looking for definitions:  while several sites listed the same types of ghost classifications, the definitions did not always match.  Crisis apparitions could be classified as "ghosts of the living" to "one time entities who try to convey an urgent message from the other side."  Some listed demons, angels, and elementals while others left them off entirely.  There were also some spirit classifications that were very specific to certain circumstances (i.e., an unnamed category of blue orb spirits that are dangerous as they go into dreams to attack a person who is emotionally weakened).

So, should ghost investigators also consider a new classification of ghost called a "drop in entity"?  Are there other groups who have experienced this?  How can we do better research into these entities?  What do they want?

It is always amazing how the paranormal field still has additional mysteries to solve beyond the "simple" concept of proving life after death. WIth more eyes in the field, there are more observable  ghostly behavior.  The simple truth remains: in learning about the individualistic natures of ghosts, we bring them more in line with ourselves.

Report

SPIRITS team members present for this investigation; Brandy, Mary, Jen, Pras, Cher (potential member) and myself.

1-Homeowner, 2 cats.

Equipment used for this investigation:  Fujitsu LifeBook with

WavePro recoding software, Casio digital camera and Sony hand held recording device and borrowed Pras’s EMF meter.

This home is a very lovely two-story house that was built in the 1930s. Jen will locate the exact date this house was constructed and will advise the group.  Restoration was undertaken by the previous homeowners 5-7 years ago to restore the home to more of an original look.

The night before the investigation before sleeping and the afternoon of the investigation, while resting, I attempted to think/meditate about the upcoming hunt to see if any information would come forward to me.  The only thing that came to mind was that this investigation was for a “controlled home” or non-haunted house that the SPIRITS use for base readings for comparisons for our paranormal research.

I arrived at the location prior to the 6:30 p.m. start time using the extra couple of minutes to snap a few shots of the exterior of the house.  When I took my camera out of my hunt-bag in the trunk of the car, I put my car keys into the bag.  Yep, you guessed it; I promptly locked my car keys in the trunk of my car. Fortunately, Mary (bless you, Mary) offered to drive me back to my home to retrieve my extra key.  So, I was both the first one on the scene and the last one on the scene.

We began our investigation in the usual manner with Brandy opening with a call to spirits to interact with our equipment and be in our photos in a positive manner.  We broke into 2-teams, Mary, Jen and myself moving to the upstairs of the house leaving Brandy, Pras and Cher to investigate the downstairs area.  I decided to leave my LifeBook recording in a central location and placed it on the dining room table.  This is the first time I used this method as I usually carry my laptop with me while recording.  I do not know why I deviated in this manner.

Upstairs included a bedroom, office area and bathroom.  Temperature readings stayed between 73-75 degrees.  EMF was steady on the 0-3 scale at .05.  I did not connect with anything on a sensitive level.  My team took many pictures. Jen mentioned a “pull” towards two on the upstairs windows, Mary picked up a couple of names, which stayed invalidated throughout the evening.  It will be interesting to see if any of the names pan out during our research of the property. 

We proceeded back down the stairs meeting up with Brandy’s team then went about our investigation.  At one point while in the Florida room, I got the distinct impression that an entity was outside on the front porch and so out the door we went.  I continued to get an impression that something was staying out on the fringes but this was isolated to the outside of the residence and not the inside.  The only real “feeling” I acquired during the silent walk thru was during my invitation to any spirit/s present to interact with my recoding equipment.  It was an energy feeling at my back that pulsed then simply left.

The group as a whole walked the exterior of the property where higher EMF readings prevailed.  Since this is a corner lot and had power lines with transformers bordering the perimeter the higher EMF readings were noted accordingly.

During the review of the silent walk thru I discovered a very strange image taken in the detached garage that strongly resembled a face like image coming off the wall of the garage.  It was a very interesting picture and Mary also captured the images.  We later discovered the source of the images.  Someone obviously had placed something on the wall and spray painted it white.  The photographed image appears to be detached from the wall. I have included the picture with this report as an example of how images taken during investigations can appear other than what they really are.   

After the group gave their individual reports we found that we were pretty spread out as to where we should attempt our EVP work.  We dutifully went to 4-different locations within and outside the residence to attempt our EVP sessions.

I did not capture any EVPs out of combined total hours between the Fujitsu and Sony recordings devices of 4:10 hours.

Though this home did indeed prove to be a controlled investigation site and did not offer up much in the way of paranormal activity, outside of a positive response to an entity being a republican.  This positive indicator was repeated twice with the same results.

However, I was left with the distinct impression that there is a wandering or lurking presence that is actually quite strong though disinterested in communicating with the SPIRITS group, that has an attachment to the neighborhood area.  This entity did not appear to have any attachments to the investigation site.

Others:  homeowner, 2 cat.

House has higher EMF.  On 0 - 3 scale average reading was around a 2.5

Florida room:

82 degrees

2.4 EMF

Living room/Narthex:

76 degrees

We found an EMF hotspot but determined that it was coming from an AC panel on the other side of the wall.

Cooler spot felt, Pras noticed drafts.  We later found a couple of windows were left open by the homeowner which would account for the drafts.

Dining room:

75 at floor, 72 - 73 degrees in the room

Bedroom:

72.5 - 73.5 degrees

Found open windows, which negates drafts and cold spots.

Later examination of my pictures found on light orb in the bedroom.

Computer generates EMF, but there was one additional small spike by the computer.  It did not replicate.

Upstairs bathroom:  2.8 EMF

Outside:  EMF average 2.5, but had to shift the meter up to the 0 - 100 scale.  There were wires running into the house and a transformer box on the power pole outside the house.

Later, in reviewing my images I discovered an orb image on a plant outside.

Shed:

Review of results:

Brandy:  no noticeable images in initial review.  No phenomena that could not be explained.

Jen:  0 feeling in the house, kitchen, heavier feeling; window in hallway -- felt drawn to it.

Shed:  heard the voice Robert or Roberta

Mary:  living room -- different feeling, heard name Steven or Stevens

Small window, upstairs, got the name Jane, Janie, or Jerry

garage:  old man, thin hair on top, thin shirt, long sleeves; saw sedan, black, 1945 or 1956.

Debbie:  Outside the house, got an orb outside in a preliminary photograph

wanted to say that it was a base (or test) hunt.

Did have tingling in her back

Upstairs:  no impressions

Downstairs:  no impressions

Thought what might be inside went outside, and it was gone.

Felt very drained of energy in back yard.

Pras:  Heard footsteps in dining room, ran into bedroom and dining room.  got the smell of strawberries.   In Florida room, a woman was sitting down (a residual energy); felt it might be a woman who follows homeowner.

Bedroom (downstairs) orb over homeowner.

Stairwell and attic door:  felt like there was something hiding.

Outside:  got an orb by the fence; felt there was a conflict about the fence

Cher:  two areas:  living room chair, kitchen:  was expecting to see someone or something

Second walkthrough:

Fl room: nothing unusual

Living room:  a small spike

Pras saw an older man with thinning hair, associated with the house

Dining room:  Every time someone mentioned the word "Republican" (side conversation) the meter spiked.  No response to other questions; asked "Are you still here" and it spiked.

Upstairs: None

Outside: None

Homeowner review:  Sometimes feels watched when no one present, but reads a lot of horror-themed books and it could be suggestion.

One cat is skittish and fearful, but this could be the cat's normal behavior.

Sometimes there are strange sounds, but there are crawl spaces where small animals can dwell.

When was home built:  1920s

No knowledge of the house except that it was remodeled by the prior owner around 2000 - 2002.

Conclusions:  This is a base investigation.  I was surprised that anyone picked anything up, as homeowner and family do not believe the house to be haunted.  We did determine that we needed to do more investigation on the history of the house, and I think those results may fill in some gaps for us.

I was surprised when going through my images to discover several orb images.  One orb was exceptionally bright (when we were sitting in the living room trying to do an EVP session) but that could be related to the light that was on above it (illuminated dust?).  I also got an odd orb outside.  I do not believe it is a bug, flower or lens obstruction but am not sure what it is.  However, since it is an outside shot the possibilities of natural phenomena go up.

Otherwise, in the words of fellow teammate, Jeanne, "I got nuttin'".

The home was a 2-story house that was built circa the 1920s and restored by a previous owner.  The investigators split into 2 teams and began the silent walk-through.  Temprature readings and EMF readings were taken without significant fluctuation throughout the home.  Following the inside investigation, the entire team walked around the outside of the home and then into a free-standing garage.  Again, there was no noticable fluctuations in EMF or temperature.

Upon walking into the home, the name of Steven, Stevens or Stevenson came to mind in the living room which was on the first floor.  Later on the second floor by a window, there was an impression of a young girl, about 7 or 8 with a name that started with a "J" such as Janie.  A third impression was of an older man who kept going between the back door and to the garage door without entering either.  An impression of a black or dark  car in the garage was also felt, with the years of 1945 and 1956 sensed.  It is unknown if there is a significance either to any of these impressions in association with this home at this time.  Perhaps further research will confirm them.  In any case, what I sensed was not a haunting, but merely residual energies.  The group as a whole did not find any evidence of paranormal activity.

Pras also felt the presence of the older man whom she thought was about 68 years old.  Debbie had an impression of an entity that was "in and out" as if watching but not wishing to be involved in our hunt.

Several pictures that I took in the home and outside had orbs.  There is one particularly large. almost light gold orb over the right side of the home as viewed from the backyard.  Pictures by a couple investigators contained unusual "phenomena" in the gargage.  When going back into the garage, it was noted that this "phenomena" was purely natural in origin....silver/white spray paint!

In all there is no evidence of active haunting at this residence.

Jen's Report

Attending:  Pras, Cher, Mary, Debbie, Brandy & myself.

This was a beautiful home with an interesting atmosphere.  Upon entering you could feel the age of the house, which was built in 1920, although that was about all I felt on this hunt.  There were only two areas of the home that I was drawn to, the out of reach window in the stairwell and the garage area.  I "heard" the name Robert associated with the garage and that was about it for me.  In the end it was revealed that this was a control hunt, meaning the homeowner has reported no activity.  I thoroughly enjoyed the home "owner" who was much fun and a great hostess.  I had absolutely no orb images out of about 36 I took.
